The Far North State College Access Network (FNSCAN) is a collaboration of school staff, college access personnel, Migrant & Indian Ed professionals, Foster Youth ILP/FYS, and others from the Far North State of California. Our purpose is to share information and best practices to help students access higher education.
By addressing the unique needs of rural and geographically isolated students who struggle with transition to college and persistence to graduation, and by bringing together professionals who can share best practices as part of a robust college access network in the far north state, we will focus on the steps to post-secondary student success including preparation and planning, paying for, and completing college.
Because of our geographic isolation, it can be very expensive for us to travel to major metropolitan areas for in depth training and professional development. By collaborating in our local area we can access more frequently the proven tools and strategies to help us serve our students more effectively. We believe that leveraging the diversity of our strengths will enhance outcomes for all.
"Far North State" refers to the 12 northernmost counties in California, which include: Butte, Del Norte, Glenn, Humboldt, Lassen, Mendocino, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity.
